How do you keep from feeling isolated when you work from home?

I do talk to people throughout the day, but sometimes I'd like to see another face, or have a reason to get out of my chair. Any thoughts?

Networking lunches. Find groups that meet relatively close. Look to your associations, alumni groups, lead transfer groups, whatever works for your business. I have two different writer groups I meet with each month.

And, whenever I can get away, I go play tennis. Highly recommended to counter the effects of sitting and snacking too much.

Create good habits and have reasons to leave the house!
Go to the GYM, go for a walk! Set a time and stick to it.
You need to get exercise.
Get a buddy who can join you.
Use Skype and teleconference often, especially with co-workers!

Skype and teleconference are great but you need a break from the house...if you cannot afford a full time office explore a Virtual Office, it gives you a prestige address, phone answering and a few days a month private office time it is a great compromise....they are VERY affordable.

How far are you away from the home office or from your nearest co-worker? How often do you plan trips in to the home office? If you are too far away from any of your co-workers you should schedule lunches with friends in the area at least twice a month.

Humans are mostly social creatures and without that interaction life begins to drag on you; the daily grind becomes unbearable. Be sure to take daily breaks and step outside for a bit of fresh air at the very least.

You can follow the example of stay-at-home moms or home school families that find events to do with others in their areas in the same situations. Yahoo Groups and Craigslist are good ways to research for social groups in your area. *NOTE* - In all things make certain you place your safety as a priority!

I worked from home for 3 years. I visited the corporate office regularly. Between that and my blackberry, I never felt isolated. As was mentioned before, exercise is a great way to break up a day. That's something I really got into working from home that I kept up with when I went back to an office.

That's simple... Keep in touch!

Visit your clients, suppliers or even transport company... It builds closer relations with them. Visit competitors and watch what they are doing, maybe you can do the same or better at a competitive price. Go to cafes and talk to people about your business and find out what do they think about your product/service and ask them for ideas on how to improve as a casual conversation. Got get something for that special someone (even the simplest means a lot).

The best thing you can do is to help the poor in whatever way you can!
