How do you make your LinkedIn Tagline compelling? Share yours with us...

Studies show that your tagline is the #1 thing people look at on LinkedIn profiles. Studies also show that the tagline should not only inform, but compel the reader to dig deeper. Share your Linked in tagline in the spirit of helping the Focus audience create better taglines themselves...taglines that attract search results, click-throughs, and network growth.

I'm not sure I'd call my LinkedIn Tagline compelling, but here's what it looks like:

"Community Manager | Content Professional | Social Media Specialist"

I've always felt that less is more, so I tried to use words that describe what I do professionally while still leaving room for "thinking outside of the box." Also, someone told me awhile ago that it's best to use keywords in your tagline for search purposes. Curious to hear other thoughts on this topic!

Good question! I saw something like this come up across Twitter earlier today too.

My LinkedIn tagline was defaulted to my current position and company. That's fairly safe but I believe having your company in the tagline might discourage recruiters from taking a serious look. So! I took my strengths and put a spin to make it stand out just a tad:

"Tech Support and Customer Service Enabler"

Personally, I think the word choice might make it worth a second glance :)

Your LinkedIn "Headline" always defaults to your current position and company. You have to go in and edit the headline just like they do in newspapers to make it compelling.
Here is mine, it reads:" LinkedIn Adviser|Brand Builder|LinkedIn Instructor of Practically Perfect Profiles" sorry for the alliteration.

What would happen if we used the Headline from the position of a newspaper or the title of a book? I believe the headline should grab attention and create some emotional interest or emotional marketing value. If possible, this is an opportunity to separate the what of what you do from the how of what you do.

Earlier this week, I changed mine again to "The Strategic Tactician to Really Busy Forward Thinking Leaders" prior to that it was "I support crazy busy forward thinking leaders." When I first started with LinkedIn, I too used my headline to describe my role - Business Coach, Executive Consultant, etc.

When I changed it along with changing my summary, I started receiving more connections and even some sales. The goal is to stand out from everyone else in your particular industry or what I call "Be the Red jacket" in the sea of gray.

P.S. Consider using this website www.aminstitute.com to learn the emotional marketing value of your headline. Click on the Headline Analyzer and then enter up to 20 words. The EMV of my headline is 55.56% which is good and much better than most headlines I have read.

Leanne is right about being a red jacket. Bottom line, the point is to say what you do but also DIFFERENTIATE yourself from the other guys — which is the most fundamental tenet of smart marketing...

My LinkedIn tagline is:

"BtoB Marketing Guru specializing in Differentiation and Gaining Market Share – at Al Shultz Advertising "
