I was taught to either look at drastic seasonal demands as either "spikes" or "promotional" upticks in the inventory....treating them totally separate from the norm if possible.
The next step would be to determine if the lead time should be adjusted and these particular items treated as MTO or 'C" items in your finished goods inventory.
