We ran a series at Terametric this summer, and had good success. A few lessons learned:

* Be consistent in use of hashtags - this is obvious, since Twitter chats depend on hashtags, but it's important to choose a Hashtag that is easy to remember and consistent. Best to keep the same Hashtag throughout your series

* Use guests - guest chatters, customers, etc... give participants a reason to want to be a part of these regularly, rather than simply revisiting the same topics, participants, over and over

* Weekly may be too frequent - while Twitter chats are easy to produce, they're almost too easy and it's important to keep them fresh and interesting. It's a lot to ask to get people to give you their attention once a week - perhaps bi-weekly or even monthly is a better option, especially as you're getting started.

Hi Brielle - I ran a weekly tweet chat a few years ago and found that the best way to build momentum around it was to participate FULLY, FREQUENTLY and consistently on a variety of other tweet chats. Since I'm in the small business space, I chose popular chats like #Smallbizchat every Wednesday 8-9pm ET. Another great one is @brandchat
Weekly chat Weds 10am CT about BRANDING. These are old and established tweet chats that attract heavy hitters in small business.

If your market is more niched - I'd recommend inviting experts (who have large followings) to participate as guests to answer questions. They will promote it to their communities and help you establish a presence.

Hope that helps - Ivana
