How do you model management practices to new employees?
I have a new, relatively inexperienced manager working at my company. What are ways I can effectively model management practices to show him how I want the job done? I feel like I can't drag him around with me all day, and I don't know how else I can model for him.

Select you best emplloyee and use them as model for new employees . What I will do is make some of your best employees as coachs in your area and they should work one on one for different task. This will built network or highly skill folks and buddy at work. also, if you have question, shoot me an email. thks Joginder
A well executed induction program, which communicates model management practices should do the job. There should be a mentoring program wherein the new employee can be assigned a mentor for continued practice and communication of the model management practices. A Team approach can also be adopted one a month during which the new employee can share his learning and ask questions.
New manager on-boarding is definately a time consuming excercise.
Having a new manager literally 'shadow' you through a work day is exhausting and in my experience, usually less productive than spending some time up front planning a structured few weeks for them. Here are a couple of examples you may want to use:
*New manager's should understand every department managers role in the organisation and how they contribute to them, so set an hour or so over a 2 week period with every manager. Prep your managers prior with guidelines to discuss how to be a great leader in your company, so your new manager gets many different perspetives (that are hopefully aligned!)
*Set aside some time each day for the new manager to read up on your companies strategy or marketing, either by setting them an assignment to research online or providing them with presentations to review and debrief with you afterward.
*Schedule them to sit in on all meetings to see how your management team interact and so they can network.
*Set some achievable (easy: quick win) work assignments straight away. An overworked on-boarding plan that doesn't allow for getting some work done, can leave a new employee feeling like they haven't contributed anything yet.
*Yes, set at least a few hours a day with yourself to be a role model for your new manager.
Hope this helps Julia!
