How does unlimited reseller hosting work?
I'm a web designer and need to earn some additional revenue. I've been told I can purchase reseller hosting from certain hosting companies - is this true? How does the whole reseller hosting thing work? I'm sure most of the limitations are dependent on the company, but what are the general limits of being a reseller of hosting services?

Make sure to shop around and find the most reputable resellers. Most web hosts may offer unlimited domains or reseller accounts but you'll have disk space and data transfer limitations. Check out http://www.resellerguide.com/ for a more in-depth look at reseller web hosting.
Do your research and understand what you are getting yourself into before selecting a preferred hosting provider for your customers. Consider your long term goals and I suggest finding a partner that is easy to work with and offers great customer service over a lower price. It may save you time in the long run as you and your customers do not want to be moving around. Most core resellers offer plans based on disk space and bandwidth.
Hi Kyle,
Hope this answer is not too late for you.
Yes, you can purchase and resell hosting solutions from a number of hosting companies. There is also a decent opportunity, here, especially, as you say, you are a web designer.
One scenario here is that you contact and contract a hosting company, which runs and manages its servers/data center. They can offer you a reseller plan, which will have certain limitations:
a) amount of disk space
b) number of domains that you can host
c) bandwidth
d)operating system, databases & application deployment capabilities
They will also define the level & scope of support as well as the expected response times.
Based on the fitment with your customer needs, you can choose one of these plans.
At a commercial level, reseller plans may start at $20-30/month and will allow you to host 5-50 web sites/domains. You may charge your customers at will.
As a reseller of hosting services, you are limited by what get from your principal host - Operating System/database/disk space/support.
Your customer needs may be more than what you purchase/resell. In that case, you may need to either move to another provider who offers a higher or different level of service or start to add that value, yourself. e.g. You may get a LAMP reseller plan but your customer needs you to install JDK on it.
I hope this was of help. Please let me know if I can add to it in any way.
Cheers!
