How effective are business lunches as a networking tool?

Are business lunches still an effective form of networking and/or sales? Would it be better to set up a formal meeting at one party's office? What do you think?

Dan,
Business lunches are a GREAT tool. If you can get a client to go to lunch or even off site for a long coffee, you will often get more, and better information than if they are in their office.

If you are calling on large / Enterprise accounts, be aware that some may not allow you to buy their employees lunch.

I have built significant relationships, and closed literally millions of dollars of business based on lunch meetings. (Actually - don't forget about breakfast meetings too!)
