How is it possible for BI to be offshored?
What, if any, aspects of BI could potentially be offshored? Why would someone want to offshore their BI? What are the benefits of this?

It's not. Well, actually, of course it is possible...but why should it be advisable?? To properly deliver a BI project you have to be in everyday touch with the users...train them, mentor them, often correct their bad habits (for instance, explaining them that reports by themselves are NOT an effective BI tool); this cannot be offshored. Yeah, you could offshore reporting and some physiacl management of the Data Warehouse...but in a BI project (better yet, in a Management Information project) these are the very minor aspects of the whole process. No, Mike, I would not offshore BI.
BI itself is hard to outsource or offshore, but many of the technical processes and data analyzes can well be offshored. These should be merely be considered as analyzing dataflows or data warehouse management rather than BI as such. I would draw the line in interpreting the data into actual BI. In order to efficiently use the information to your benefit one needs to understand much more than just exact numbers (though that takes pretty far), but you need to know the 'normal' and comparative data, understand where it comes from and why, etc., to fully take advantage of it. That's what I think.
