How long before the term "cloud" starts to fade away?
At some point we'll stop emphasizing the cloud as a differentiating factor simply because it will become "the way we do things." When do you think that will happen?

I don't think it will fade away...
More likely, the term will become far less charged and become more common-place like SaaS is today (vs 5 years ago)
We still say "the internet" or "the web", albeit without all the hoopla and drama of a decade ago. OTOH, we no longer say "the information superhighway" with any regularity, and for this I am eternally grateful. :)
I don't think that "cloud" will end up like "information superhighway", but rather like "internet". It will become generic and not worthy of marketing hype.

It's going to be a while - in larger & older companies those on-premise legacy applications (and IT departments) will be sticking around for some time still. Having said that, just being 'cloud' won't mean much as we get into '12 and beyond.
I don't know how long that will be, but I believe it will begin to happen when the term "cloud" becomes associated with a number of major and very visible horror stories, probably related to breaches of security or lost data. Then, to keep sales from tanking, the "cloud" vendors will come up with another "new and improved" technology (read name) for what they are selling.
None too soon.
Too many people think it is a supernatural phenomenon.
