It really depends if you are looking at an on-premise software or a SaaS service desk solution. Have you decided which model you prefer?

That is the magic question !!

It goes from 0$ ( open source off the net) up to 200 000$ +

It all depends on your business processes that you want to have in your future help desk.

Questions you should ask yourself :

-What type of support do I want to offer or who will I support? Internal ? External? IT only ? Corporate and HR ? Buiding maintenance ?

- Self Service portal for end user? for techs?
- Email integration ?
- ITIL ?
- Asset management and to what level
- Work flow? SLAs ?
- Customer satisfaction surveys?
- Reporting capabilities?
- Asset discovery ?

-How many licenses do I need?

Etc.
