I think that it varies depending on what type of business you have. Obviously small businesses don't necessarily have the budget to bring on a team of social media experts, and businesses that have money don't necessarily want to. I think social media is very important for a business, but I don't necessarily think spending a lot of money on it is important either. There are a lot of ways to get exposure on social media without spending any money at all.
I think most businesses should advertise and market themselves on social media, but to depend on it entirely is also not a great idea.
