How is the virtual trade show market trending right now?
At least in b2b, I am not seeing as many virtual trade shows happening. Are they any current trends? What markets are successfully producing virtual trade shows?

You're probably not seeing them because they're happening in B2B markets outside of your realm (ha ha ;-).
To tie two components of your question together, I do see two trends:
1) Growth in adoption from B2B industries beyond technology;
2) Use of hybrid trade shows, whereby a physical trade show deploys a "virtual extension"
Industry examples:
Healthcare - HIMSS (http://www.himss.org/) - notice how prominently "virtual" is featured on their home page.
Broadcasting - NAB Show (http://www.nabshow.com/2012/default.asp) deployed a virtual extension for their 2011 show.
Associations - HSMAI (Hospitality vertical) migrated their 2011 event to a hybrid format (http://www.hsmaimeet.com/).
NAB Show and HSMAI MEET are both good examples of trade shows that are adopting the hybrid model. Another pioneer in the association space has been PCMA (Professional Convention Management Association) - their Convening Leaders annual meeting is now hybrid (http://www.conveningleaders.org/).
Hope that helps.
Hi all,
we are experiencing a 60 % growth in number of events, revenue, etc in 2011, therefore I would say that virtual events are becoming mainstream!.
Main trends:
.- Multiplatform and multiexperience: 3D & 2D, mobile and web. Technology will deliver different experiences to attendees depending on their devices and location
.- Wide adoption by Corporations and physical event organisers, with a boost in hybrid events (I have to agree with Dennis there ;)).
Main markets:
Recruitment industry: Virtual career fairs
Tourism industry: Workshops and trade shows
Education industry: MBA & University selection events
Franchising industry
Corporate events
my 5 cents,
Miguel
I just produced the government's first hybrid event, so expect a huge increase there, (in government, it usually takes 1 "lamb" to prove the use case, then the flood gates break off); however, government will be reducing in person events. So, I forsee more virtual only events in government...hybrid everywhere else.
