HR payroll software buyer’s guide?
We’re looking to evaluate different HR/payroll software and I was hoping to find some sort of buyer’s guide that gives you some guidelines of the search process. Does anyone have a recent buyer’s guide, or know of a reputable site where I can find this type of thing?

Ashley,
Dene makes some good points about the additional capabilities that can benefit companies with over 100 employees. To add to this, find out more about the rules that govern the accrual plans (vacation sick etc...) and various deductions (401k, healthcare etc...). These are the areas in which we find significant differences between companies that can add complexity. Another consideration is integration with the general ledger. APS Payroll has a buyers guide that will serve as a good high level checklist (the company provides a unified solution for payroll, hr and time & attendance).

Ashley:
If you seriously want HR and Payroll together, it is usually easy to narrow the field based on your company size. I like the idea of a "comparison guide" but would not rely on it by itself. If you are under 100 employees, there are tons of choices with simple functionality at a low price.. If you are over 200, and less than about 10,000, and you want things like effective dating, history, self service and event scheduling, no one beats Ultimate Software....of course I am biased....
