Absolutely! Tablets are larger and a better form factor for browsing and reading while smartphones can best handle immediate needs and entertainment. I design apps that use the specific controllers and features of the individual devices as well as provide some of the functionality that the tablet or phone is best suited to handle. I use larger pictures, more text, and more touch interactivity in tablet apps, while in smartphone apps I have a a specific goal and try to accomplish that goal as quickly and as easily as I can for the user without as much interaction.

Things like animated transitions and view controllers are different on the iPad and I try to use those in my iPad apps because that is part of the reason the user likes the tablet apps. iPhone apps work best if I incorporate the phone/camera when appropriate, and try to get information or assistance to the user quickly and with as little input as possible.
