I'm completely new to blogging. Is it going to be difficult/ expensive to have it added to our site?
This question was asked by a Focus Interactive Summit attendee during Mark Schaefer’s presentation, “Blogging & Tweeting: Do They Really Matter to Your Brand?” Mark replied, "Typically no, but it depends on your website and your IT costs. I recommend Wordpress as a great tool. I have no affiliation with the product but it works very well and they keep adding useful functionality for free!"
What tools do you recommend for this first-time blogger?

To add a blog to your site could definitely be free, for example, Wordpress is open source–i.e. free, very customizable (you can make it look like your website, and pretty scalable as well.
You will see some cost though; hosting (if separate from your corporate site), template/theme (you can buy great themes for $25, or you can have someone design one for you), customization of theme (many times you'll need added functionality or customized design). Other than that, time is money, and blogging takes a good amount of time (could easily be a full time job).
Also, most blog platforms now are extremely easy to work with, like using desktop publishing for example. The difficult part comes with thinking about your strategy, distribution, content plan, etc.
For tips to get started I would say you should check out Hubspot. They have a lot of great resources, and their blogging platform is great for small business. If you're in a larger company, it's still worth checking out, they have a ton of best practices around blogging.
