Is Jigsaw the king?

I am getting ready to buy some lists for my upcoming outbound call campaign. It seems like there's a lot of places these days to buy lists. I used to use list brokers and harte hanks. I see jigsaw a lot. Any recommendations?

When we're selling our outbound marketing demand gen solutions, we get asked all the time, where can I find inexpensive b2b sales leads? We obviously try to sell up to our high level appointment setting service, but not all companies are ready for that. So below is a collection of data sources we've used in our lead generation work.

It's not a complete list, by any means, so if you have found other sources or want to submit some, please COMMENT below. We are always looking for quality lists...it is the fuel that keeps our business going.

Online Data Suppliers: Typically an annual subscription basis. Although, see Jigsaw, below. Italics are their own company description, following that is my comment.

* Jigsaw - is a leading provider of business information and data services that uniquely leverages user-generated content contributed by its global business-to-business community of 900,000 members. Jigsaw gives individuals and companies access to contact information for 15 million business people and profiles of 2.6 million companies.

By far the best value on the market for the quality you receive. Contacts are fairly recent, most have direct dials and emails. Check out their great list building tools. Jigsaw is the exception in that they do offer annual unlimited subscriptions (highly recommended by Smashmouth), they also allow you to swap contacts and to purchase them individually.

* OneSource - OneSource, an infoUSA company, delivers prospect and business intelligence information on millions of companies and executives worldwide -- optimizing clients' sales and marketing efforts and assisting with business-to-business research activities.

Very broad coverage. If you are after Owners, C/VP level contacts, it is heavy with this data. A bit shy on the practitioner level (Dir and below). Search and sort criteria are very comprehensive. Lots of data on the research side.

* iProfile - The pioneer in IT profiling since 1993 and now the global leader, iProfile provides high-tech company sales and marketing organizations the business intelligence they need to create demand, qualify accounts, penetrate new accounts, and accelerate sales.

If it's Fortune 2000 type companies you want and you target technology buyers, there is no other source. Org charts, direct dials and emails. Extensive research. Fabulous service, but on the pricey side.

* Input - INPUT is the authority on government business. Established in 1974, INPUT helps companies develop federal, state, and local government business and helps public sector organizations achieve their objectives.

If you target federal, state and local government, there is no other source of research and data.

* Hoovers, infoUSA and others - Just not into them. We've never found the value.

You might want to have a look at a piece of research that Benice Grossman and I published a few months ago, in which several online providers of B-to-B data, including Jigsaw, were assessed for accuracy and completeness. The white paper is available here: http://www.ruthstevens.com/white_papers.html And,by the way, we plan to conduct an updated comparative analysis early next year as well.

Jigsaw is definitely one of the best options if you are looking for lists of contacts based on broad titles etc. They have contact email addresses and phone numbers which makes them very usable.

But I'd say its not an all purpose solution.

If you are looking for deep rooted role-based contacts to focus all your marketing and sales (expensive) efforts on, then I'd argue that more specific list building based on your requirements will go a long way in delivering a strong ROI.

Building and maintaining high quality and actionable marketing database is a huge challenge that I feel doesn't get as much indepth though/discussion.

I'd be glad to discuss more if you'd like. You can DM me on twitter @readycontacts.

Best,
-Vaibhav
PS: We have been delivering role-based contact lists to small and large companies for a while and that is the experience behind my comment. Just wanted to mention without sounding like I am promoting our offering :-)

Jigsaw is the best, most accurate, list provider we've ever seen. 100% multi-channel. They have the company address and the actual contact address where different. Company phone # and the direct dial # which is rare to find anywhere else. And, most important, all their records have the B2B email. Can't find that anywhere else, etiher.

They are about 80% to 85% accurate, which we find to be a good 25% better than their competitors.

And, they give the company data and basic firmagraphics away for free. That's big.

They don't satisfy everything, but they satisfy most, so I start there and then fill around them.

I know they just jumped into the Profiling, Lead Gen, Appointment setting, etc business, too, so you should ask them about that.

I used Jigsaw quite a bit and have been pleased with the results. I've also used Spoke (www.spoke.com) for direct mail, sales prospecting, and email campaigns and the results have been similar - so I would suggest shopping for the best price between the two and see who is more cost effective.

I think Jigsaw is great when you are looking for job titles or filling out your list of contacts for a company. As Vaibhav mentioned, role based is another ballgame. Another "role based" contact vendor is Reachforce. I'd skip the industry trade publications as they tend to have the right people, with the wrong info. People tend to use their personal info for those sorts of lists. But honestly, all though it is an appealing way to build your list, inbound techniques have higher response rates: using linkedin, blogs, your own newsletter etc.

It also can work well if you can have a partner mail on your behalf as well.

Good luck.

Hands down Jigsaw is by far the best! A lot of other list providing companies actually use and get THEIR data from Jigsaw! Complete records with names, e-mails, address, title, phone (many direct). 100% if not accurate, update and get your points/money back on the spot no questions asked. Try asking for the quality that Jigsaw has from any other company and see what excuses they give you.

Of course Jigsaw is the best! Community driven... AND you never pay for bad data. Tell them your email bounced, get your points back and continue prospecting. They clean your existing CRM too with their new product, Data Fusion every night! Keeping my CRM up to date and accurate is a priority and helps drive my business. Definitely something to look into since no one else can offer that kind of service.

Jigsaw is a great service, and you may also want to check out Demandbase (who gets data from Jigsaw, Harte-Hanks, Hoovers, D&B, LexisNexis and a variety of other sources) and allows you to search, select and purchase contacts one at a time or by the thousands without any sort of subscription. We also offer solutions that help you identify the businesses on your website, who are actively searching for you along with contacts for sales outreach. visit www.demandbase.com

Bradford, If the information you are seeking is Name, Title, Direct Dial Phone number and Email address, then Jigsaw.com is the clear leader. With their innovative , "Crowdsourced" business model, they are the clear leader.

If you are looking for more depth on each contact, employment history, education background, web content, social networking profiles, etc. then I recommend Zoominfo.com.

I write about Web Tools for Sales and Marketing on my blog at Fill the Funnel. Michael Damphousse (see comment above) provided references to one of my posts about Jigsaw. You can also review Zoominfo highlights by searching on Zoominfo from within the blog. Michael's post is also a very helpful read on this topic, and he makes his living using these tools and a recognized expert in the field.

Good luck, and let us know what you decide.

Jigsaw has multi-million contacts in their database so it is surely significant benefit, it can also be a drawback since there is a fairly high percentage of contacts which has expired and although there is a system in place for users to mark bad contacts, the sheer volume of data makes it difficult to maintain the quality of it so its not uncommon to find contacts that no longer exist in their roles.

Our company Smarte's ContactGenie:
