hasan,

That is a very broad question as it is a very big field from the basics of routing to different features offered. Can you narrow your question down?

To know about routers, you would be well advised to first know about routing. Research and understand how routing works conceptually. Start with the architecture of the IPv4 address, and where addressing and networking fit into the basic OSI seven layer model (a great deal of computer technology can be rendered comprehensible by a consideration of the OSI model). Then you will have a foundation on which to examine the routing protocols and capacities of specific hardware items.

The below links are some possible starting points for your research:

Hasan,
I don't know how much depth you are looking for how routers work? The above answers are a good start. For the basics and an easy explanation howstuffworks.com is a good resource. This will give you a basic understanding. Here is the link, http://www.howstuffworks.com/router1.htm . Hope this helps.
