I think you have a look at deskaway - http://www.deskaway.com
If you want to go open source - try collabtive: http://collabtive.o-dyn.de/
Hi Lyle - check out WORKetc @ http://www.WORKetc.com
Web based project management software that also offers access for your customers to participate in their projects. Also includes built in CRM and billing
Definitely take a look at Project Insight at http://www.projectinsight.net/ProductInformation/. The Outlook and MS-Project integration make it easy for other team members to participate without learning a complicated new system, and it has all the features that professional project managers really need, like project scheduling and resource management so you know when someone is overscheduled.
Lyle, dont forget to look at which includes PM, as well as, CRM, HRMS and Accounting. Our company chose this because of its relative cheapness and that is has all the functions we needed
Probably far too late for Lyle, but hopefully helpful to someone else! I love Basecamp. I've been using it for a few months now and I'm finding it great; it definitely helps in team and client communications as part of the project as well as managing the milestones etc.
Lyle, you don't describe your project so it's very hard to answer in a meaningful way. Basecamp is more of a collaboration tool than a PM tool, per se. However, it may be totally sufficient for your needs. You might also look at LiquidPlanner, which has more robust project management features. Clarizen is another web-based product that goes even deeper into project portfolio management.
There are many web-based PM tools, but you need to define your own needs and requirements as the first step.
Agree with Michael. Probably you need only PM or CRM tool, so in this case you should look at those systems which focus mainly on those sections. As we need PM, CRM, HRMS and Accounting tools, we decided to use WorkForceTrack
Check out Ace Project. http://www.aceproject.com/. I started using it recently and I really like how easy it is to keep track of my projects.
I concur with Michael in matching your need with the right tool. Accordingly, I use SmartSheet every single day, a SaaS-based product. I'm no project manager, but it's easy for me to set up projects, plans, and schedules and add guests to collaborate. The learning curve is essentially nil.
