I need a system to handle my employee payroll.
What are some good companies that I can outsource my payroll to? I need something that is not too pricey, but still has a good reputation.

How large is your payroll? What state are you located in?
I know that Corporate Payroll Services is good, http://www.corpay.com/, ADP, Ceridian, Administaff, AlphaStaff. Seems the market for payroll companies is expanding.

I've worked with/for many companies over the past 4 decades, and have come to several conclusions about payroll:
1- never do it yourself - the exposure to compliance and legal issues is simply too great
2- currently the best-known names in the business (the three public companies), are haunted by either service or software problems to the extent that I no longer recommend them to my clients
3-Use a smaller company that has a tested, on-line system so you can access you payroll from where/whenever. I currently work with only three, two of which are local to Northern California. One is national
If you have the right back office accounting software (like Microsoft Dynamics GP) you really don't need to be afraid of doing your payroll in house.
If you choose to do inhouse or with a company like Paychex or ADP, you still need to sit in front of a computer screen and enter employee records. Just depends on if you are entering then into your accounting software or ADP screen. I admit, if you do it in house the extra step is that you have is to calculate checks, bill checks and print checks. But These 3 functions typically take no more than 1 to 2 hours. "But ADP will file my taxes!" you say. This is true. But if you purchase a one time add on to Dynamics GP called Greenshades, then the taxes are calculated for you in house also. All you have to do is send out the payment to the IRS. (I admit, an important step!)
In our experience, on average a company that pays 300-400 employees running payroll in house will spend approx. 3-4 hours extra per week vs. paying an outsourced company like ADP to do this for you.
We have one client, a staffing co in NYC, that processes 800 payroll checks weekly. They paid $205,000 each year to ADP. They purchased Microsoft Dynamics GP with payroll and the Greenshades product for a total of approx. $100,000. A one time purchase. Quite a savings year after year.
So before your are too quick to write it off as an option - consider spending your money on a good accounting software and doing your payroll internally.
