Online erp vs. on-site erp?
What are the benefits of using an online erp system versus an on-site system? I've heard that you have more flexibility and lower costs, but are they as robust as on-site erp systems? What type of system do you use and why?

Phil,
There is a lot of hype around SaaS and online ERP these days. SaaS vendors and their respective license sales are growing quickly and these providers are giving traditional vendors some hefty competition.
While I cannot go into all the merits of online ERP in this response, I would encourage you to review a blog entry and video I created on the subject. You can find my blog post titled "SaaS vs. On Premise ERP Software: Understanding Fact and Fiction" on our website at: http://panorama-consulting.com/saas-vs-on-premise-erp-software-understanding-....
At the very least, the post will offer another consultant's view on the subject.

Hi Phil,
Online ERP products are not likely to be as robust or rich in features as on-premise ones. So if you are looking for something that is robust and you have a good budget you should go for on-premise ones.
But if you are willing to experiment and / or have a very small budget, I recommend you try out the online products. These products usually have a very small upfront cost as they are hosted. They have a smaller customer base so they may not be as robust. But the technology is usually great and for the future.
So in the end it depends on your expectation, budget and risk profile!

On-site ERP always leads, because ERP is meant to be designed and developed unique for each and every organizations. Using such onsite ERP always have more functionalities and management criteria.
