Phone system for small company?
My company has experienced rapid growth in the last quarter. We are expanding from 10 employees to 20 by the end of July. We currently run a hosted VoIP phone system. Do you believe a hosted phone solution can support 20 users or would it be more cost effective to purchase a premised based solution?

From my experience in being a part of several start-ups, I have found the IT department particularly happy with regional resellers/integrators from larger providers such as Avaya, Cisco, and Nortel.
Yes you can support 20 users with a hosted system, however, the increased number of phones will also increase the amount of voice packets and data that will be transmitted. This will result in taking up more bandwidth, thus possibly giving way to more dropped calls and loss in voice quality. From my knowledge, many of the vendors are not able to be as effective in supporting over 20 phones. One way to avoid such issues with a hosted solution, is to make sure you have sufficient bandwidth to support all the voice and data that is being transferred. There are test sites online that can do this for you, but I would recommend having a telephony specialist come out to your location and do an on site network assessment.
Something to also consider when weighing the options for a VOIP phone solution is to look at the cost over all and long term ROI. Most hosted or managed VOIP providers, bill per month, per phone. I would do the math on what the reoccurring monthly cost would be for a hosted solution vs. the monthly cost to purchase your own system. Depending on the vendor and service plan that you choice it may be cheaper or equal to the same cost to just buy your own premise solution where you most likely find a larger ROI long term.
We provide both services. Most hosted product charges per user. From an economies perspective there is a point where it will be less money to install a premise based system. If you can get a 36 month lease on the system you might be surprised how quickly you can save money with a premise based system, especially with 20 stations.

Using a hosted solution makes expanding your business possible with minimal cost, you my need to make a few network changes, such as routers or switches. With TPN you can even lease the equipment at a lesser cost then you may be paying now.
Contact me if you would like further information on how we can lower your costs and provide you with a fully scalable solution at a fraction of the cost of a traditional premise based PBX and most other hosted VoIP providers.
I hope to hear from you
