Caty, sorry I'm just now getting around to this. I am a huge fan of bold new platforms like Google+. The small number of people who use it are early adopters, and are generally open to being contacted by other early adopters.
If you contribute good content to the stream on a regular basis, people will be glad to give you referrals or take your call if you just ask occasionally.
And searching for people is pretty straight forward with the FindPeopleOnPlus app. http://www.findpeopleonplus.com. Want to find a mobile app developer or CTO? Just look. You get a pretty short, targeted list that is easy to scan, with bio pic, etc.
FindPeopleOnPlus is not an advanced search engine, but it works. And if you find someone you wish to contact? Or several? Add them to a specific circle, and invite them to a hangout or huddle.
I am hearing of people every day who are abandoning Twitter and Facebook for Google+. It's not perfect yet. But it is definitely going to grow. Take advantage now while you can still search through a short list of early adopters.

As I'm not an actual recruiter I can't answer the question for you first hand. However, you might be interested in this blog post that Andy Headworth has written:

In my opinion Google+ is still to new and fresh to be a valuable part of a recruiting strategy. The "Circles" element may be of some use at present for networking and sourcing but at this time most of my Linkedin and other networks are not using Google+.
This is a tool that over the long haul may be a part of a great Social Media strategy (time will tell) but at present it is still in "trial" mode and many folks are not even aware of it.
