Reviews for EMC virtualization infrastructure?
Our company has decided to virtualize the data center, and are looking at our options. VMware seems to be the top software choice, but people are still trying to decide on which hardware vendor. Our CIO seems very interested in EMC's integration with VMware - does anyone have any reviews or anecdotal experiences with this company & their products? Thanks.

have run VMWare on EMC CXs line and I dont think vmware storage integration is all that useful, assuming if what you mean is storage administration through Virtual Center. SAN features such as block level RAID, Scalability, Automatic storage tiering, thin provisioning, Monitoring, and Reporting are much more important. Look into 3Par, Compellant, and Equallogic SANs and compare these features against these vendors. Dont just virtualize the datacenter, Private cloud the datacenter with VMWare Virtual Infrastructure for high availability and Platform ISF cloud management software. Get the inexpensive 3 host max license and the new Dell 2U quad core six socket servers.
I have been runnging a Private cloud like this for over 3 years and it works extremely well, 50% and less the cost of standard network and over a year of 100% uptime...
50% less equals $100Ks less in my experience... It would take several hours to really explain how well this works.... Get a Private cloud and get it now...They can be built for far less than most people think. A Private / Hybrid cloud really is the future of IT. Any questions please feel free to ask

I think EMC’s unified storage systems would be a great fit for your team. EMC owns VMware, and this is the reason why the level of integration is so high. Everything is done in-house.
When talking about EMC (so far I understand is that you're unfamiliar with this company), it is good to know that EMC produces the Symmetrix, CLARiiON and Celerra lines of storage products. Symmetrix is the high-end and the fastest in the world right now (cca. 2 years ahead of the competition), while CLARiiON is a typical midrange storage array. Celerra is called unified storage platform offering NAS and SAN capabilities (it's basically CLARiiON with Celerra headers).
When talking about VMware, it's the best choice for large enterprise environments because of it's high virtual machine density per CPU and great management features. But if we are talking about 10-20 servers, you could take a look at Microsoft HyperV or Citrix XenServer (both are free products).
As you will see, there are varying opinions on which manufacturer "does it best". You will also find rave reviews from every manufacturer out there. The true answer is that it depends on your needs and goals which features and components are best for your environment. I would recommend meeting with a storage solution provider that has expertise in virtualizing storage environments. You will need to have a conversation around your current and future goals so you don't invest in the wrong path for your company. If your are looking for the best solution, VMWare, EMC & Cisco would be your choose.
But in this partnershit, could exist another player, "NetApp" and you can replace EMC for them.
VMWare with HA, and Vmotion make the different, and adding a couple of Data Centers (Ready for Disaster Recovery), lets Systems Administrator to sleep well.
As other guys said in theirs above comments, XenServer (Citrix) and Hyper-V (Microsoft) would be other options, but they do not play in "Champions League" in my opinion.
