ROI of virtualizing my servers?
Will virtualizing my data center really cut costs, will it cost more than it's worth?

Every deployment is unique and there is no 1 size fits all answer. You would need to do the math of the initial cost of virtualization vs the cost savings in Hardware, Power, and management. Virtualization scales very well so if you have a hundred or more physical servers you can be very sure that it will save you money in a 3 year TCO.
Take a look at some of these benefits:

It very much depends on a few variables, to be quite honest. How many systems you have, and how old they are. As well you would have to consider how you software licensing agreement is and how would virtualization affect that. Another thing to look at is the environment you are looking to virtualize depending on system utilization. There are more factors but these tend to be the biggest ones that come up when I speak with a customer.
Here are some of the literature I usually direct to my customers when they are doing research in regards to virtualization and what key benefits and cost savings they can achieve.

I hope that helps with your research into virtualization technology and platforms, as well as what kind of cost savings can be achieved.
I just wrote a blog about this topic ... check it out, it might give you some more information to think about!
