My answer, emphatically, would be "no". If you want folks to follow you on both platforms, and you should for the simple reason that they are making multiple decisions to believe in you by doing so, your content must be fresh everywhere. Cross-posting can backfire if you bore your audience.

I think you need to have them linked, as you will find some people only use one or the other, especially with the mass exodus of users moving from facebook to google+. However as Belldon said, you want to keep things fresh between them, so there will be various posts that will appear on each, however you need 'exclusives' that you keep to just one. We find running a competition/promotion on one of the social networks works best, and brings new followers in, then the next competiton/promotion on another social network. This way you can build all of your profiles!
