Is Siebel CRM still the number one for enterprise CRM?

I know that the CRM market has become pretty competitive with plenty of options for smaller businesses, but for enterprise size companies, is Siebel still the best option?

From everyone that I have spoken to, the answer is No. In fact it is not even clear that it will be around in a few years as Larry consolidates Siebel/PeopleSoft/Oracle Business Solutions, etc. That said, it may be the right solution for you.

There is no single answer as to which enterprise CRM system is best since it depends upon your particular requirements.

I recently wrote an article that details a process you can follow to find the system that best meets your needs: http://www.focus.com/ugr/research/crm/how-pick-right-crm-helpdesk-bpm-vendor

I agree, having worked with Siebel ( IT based) I think that the lack of flexibility and integration that is demonstrated by hosted systems like SFDC puts it at a major disadvantage. It seemed that anytime we wanted to make even a minor change in our Siebel system, the response back from our IT organization was " 6 months and $50K"to make a change With continued cutbacks in IT headcount it got to the point that you could not modify anything in the system. Our strategy from marketing was to try to work around Siebel as much as possible and used web based hosted solutions ( Blue Roads) for our indirect channels. We used Siebel SFA for our direct sales channels and Blue Roads for our indirect channel leads.

Getting quality closed loop lead feedback is difficult enough, the key is showing ease of use and real value to the sales reps. There is no comparison of the today's user friendly systems like SFDC compared to the Siebel system we used.

Well, I would say that more and more people tend to move towards SaaS CRM such as SalesForce.com, Netsuite CRM, or SugarCRM (Open Source). They provide more flexibility and the cost is not as high as for Siebel. Also an interesting alternative is Microsoft Dynamics CRM, but it highly depends what you want to achieve, Sales Force Automation or Service Management?
