Obvious answers would be Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube.
But I say, "it depends" - first determine WHO your target audience is, then determine WHERE they are. If you're a consumer brand targeting a Gen Y audience, then your audience may not be on LinkedIn and Twitter - but you can bet they're on Facebook and YouTube.
Also consider niche/targeted social media sites that align with the industry (or industries) you operate in. If you're in the pharmaceutical industry and there's a social network for physicians, then that may be the perfect fit.
When engaging in social networks, make sure you:
1) LISTEN FIRST
2) PROVIDE VALUE
3) AVOID SPAMMING / OVER-PROMOTING
