Social Media and SEO go hand in hand. It's a matter of optimizing your social presence, to optimize your search presence. If you develop a devoted following that spans other platforms, you will be ahead of the SEO game. Before you know it, smaller platforms like Foursquare and others that haven't become household names yet will become an important factor in your search visibility. The addition of 'likes' to search results is just a small portion of the sea change that is occurring in online marketing. Your strategy will definitely have to adapt, but I don't think that you need to change your entire SEO philosophy. You need to be aware that the more prominent and proactive you are socially, it will reflect beneficially for you in search.
