Staff roster template?

I work for a small boutique retail shop, and we really need to update/refresh our staff roster. I want to make a brand new one from scratch to present to management, but before I did, I was curious to see any examples of retail staff rosters. Is it useful to include availability on the roster? Schedules? What types of information would you find useful?

Hi

I don't have a copy that I can send but am used to to setting rosters for up to 30 staff.

Key info needed. Start Time, Finish Time, Days of Week. Line per individual.

We went one step further and put in individual break times, for am, lunch and pm.

We also used to issue everyone with a copy and have the rule that anyone swapping shifts etc had to seek approval with management.

Lee's advice is pretty good, I'd do it graphically in Excel using colour blocks to show who is on when, so you can quick scan and ensure that you have the right number of people in store at any one time. I did rotas for a dozen retail stores this way and it works fine, no need to spend enormous amounts of money or time and effort, and they are fine for printing and displaying for staff - particularly if you use an individual colour for each staff member.

Nik, Excel rosters are ineffective. Nowadays there are many softwares for employee scheduling that can generate reports (including the roster) and automate the process.

Check out Enigmai for a good and free employee scheduling solution.
