Strategies for cultural diversity in the workplace?

I recently read an article claiming that nearly three fourths of all companies responding to a recent study (by the Institute for Corporate Productivity) have some sort of "diversity strategy" in place. Does your company have a diversity strategy? If so, what are the benefits and drawbacks of this plan? Does the strategy actually enhance the workplace, or is it just to prove that you're organization is an EOE?

In my experience most organisations pay lip service to diversity, and those that don't often mistake endless diversity as endless advantage.

I once worked for an organisation with 163 different nationalities working under its roof during start up phase - it was a disaster, the level of cultural conflict was beyond belief. Two years later they have around 30-35 different nationalities and it works much better now.

Diversity is not always a benefit, no matter how hard it is sold. Conformity of workforce (particularly at the low end of responsibility/skill) is often a huge benefit to workplace harmony.

I enjoy working in diverse environments, and became an expat to see more of the world and more cultures. But I'm not going to spend any time being fooled into believing that diversity doesn't create as many problems as it purports to solve.
