Top linux web hosting vendor?
I'm kind of taking an informal poll between my clients and other people I know in the industry. My question is this - who do you think is the top linux web hosting vendor and why? I'd like to know which hosting companies are really doing a good job with linux, and why others are dropping the ball. Thoughts?

I have to put my hand up for our company, Bulletproof Networks. We have a long history with Linux, including some patent pending work around using Linux as a connectivity gateway for small business, and of course as a hosting platform for almost 10 years. All our engineers must be fluent in the popular forms of Linux to be employed, run Linux at home and on their work laptops, and we run a range of different linuxes on our various administrative servers across our farm. In our virtualized environment, around half of our 600 hosted VMs run Linux. It's easy enough to build a basic Linux server, but hardening for security, and as in our case for large clients, building highly available, redundant tiered cluster architectures requires a very deep knowledge in the various Linux platforms for rollout and ongoing management support.
The reason non-Linux savvy hosters fall down is they don't live and breathe Linux, on a daily basis, and once you get past the basics it is a complex platform to manage well.

Try Pair.com. Good service and pricing. Some are dropping the ball in being slow to offer better prices for virtualization.
How I would rate a Linux hosting company is based on:
1. How quickly LINUX issues get addressed without going for internal escalations (delays).
2. How strong they are on security on LINUX boxes. Ask a few questions as well as ask for what is the basic hardening they do on your server.
3. How flexible they are on installation requests - again reflects the comfort levels of the teams.
As for names, there are a bunch of hosting companies who are quite good at Linux. As we are a hosting company on LINUX, as well, I think it is unfair for me to be commenting on this. :)
Cheers!
I think the company I'm working for do a lot for our customers in things like linux. I'm since over 4 years backend linux administrator focused on virtualization - having a huge VPS 'farm'. Product it self isn't 'managed', we have almost 30 000 Virtual Servers. Other departments use f.e. Xen, VMWare, advanced HA solutions, SAN etc, just what you want.
