Virtual trade shows: What works and doesn't work with virtual trade shows today?
I just wrote a post on the "It's all virtual" blog on 5 tips for a successful virtual trade show http://allvirtual.wordpress.com/2010/06/22/5-tips-for-a-successful-virtual-trade-show/. Some people have personally written me afterward with their feelings on the virtual trade show experience, tell me yours!

Craig - great blog posting. I represent the "vendor" side of virtual events (i.e. the underlying virtual event platform), so I'll chime in with an additional consideration for a successful virtual trade show.
Your post focuses on content - and rightly so. I agree with you on the importance of content. In addition, I think the "event experience" is important. This includes the navigation, user experience, imagery, platform features, etc.
If you have the greatest content in the world, but a platform that doesn't connect the users to that content in an effective way, then that's a bad combination. "Experience design" factors in both the virtual event platform (i.e. the vendor you select) and places responsibility on "you" as the event host (on components of the experience for which you have direct control).
To sum up, it's content + experience!
