With the way the current job market is, does a good candidate experience really even matter?

Many companies offer a terrible candidate experience, but with the way the job market is, does it really even matter? I feel like many candidates would take the interview (or even job) regardless of how bad the experience is simply because there's not a lot out there. What are your thoughts?

Even though the market is bad, I think many candidates will still weigh the candidate experience in their decision to accept an offer. Sure, there are situations where people are desperate for a paycheck to avoid financial crisis. But I think most people still need to feel that there is a positive relationship and cultural fit when joining a company. And hopefully this is bi-directional, with the company wanting to ensure that the candidate is really excited about the opportunity just offered to them.

But with that said, there are so many horror stories out there about the treatment of candidates during the hiring process. I've noticed that some companies have "tweaked" their processes in light of less than favorable press, especially around the subject of asking ridiculous questions during the interview cycle.
