What are the advantages of Open Source business intelligence?
What are the advantages of implementing an Open Source BI system instead of going with a proprietary system like Microsoft or IBM? If one doesn't have the IT resources required to program, then does it make sense to implement a proprietary system? Why or why not?

The main advantage with open source would be the cost. Now that is the up front cost since most open source programs do not come “out of the box” configured to work as you would want it to. Since you stated you don’t have the resources to refine an open source program I would be reluctant to go down that path. The one exception would be if you can find an open source distro that is industry specific and is configured exactly the way you want it by defaults.
