Virtualizing in small business can be beneficial by cutting costs, but it depends on your infrastructure. It also is great for disaster recovery, something Small Businesses do not think about very often. If you can explore your question a little further, like your type of environment and server count, we could go into further discussions about the subject.
A SMB can save tremendous amount of initial and ongoing costs by going Virtual. Now with many open source solutions, such as Sun VirtualBox; going virtual can be extremely affordable as well.
But remember to choose your virtualization method properly in the beginning. It is potentially a tremendous amount of work to go from one virtual solution to another. Get it right the first time and you will have far fewer headaches later down the road.
