Hi Mason,

All of the service providers will try and win your business and they will go through such measures as paid advertising and reviews to reach that level of service being the industry best. There are a couple of things to consider when researching a hosting provider which will help you find the best one.

Price, Determine what your budget is, if its managed hosting and your looking to leverage their engineers expertise this is part of the pricing bargain.

Specialty, Do you have a product that requires a certain area of expertise that make your selection unique. Such as; Database Services, Application Support, Compliance Regulations (Credit Cards), Security (Healthcare, Legal, Financial).

If you can narrow in on these and then find a provider who stands out then onto the next steps involving reference, credibility, location and contracts.

If you would like some help I can help give you recommendations, good luck!

hey Mason, there are so many webhosts out there. I created a list of free website builders, some of which are good for ecommerce and online stores. I like and have used BigCommerce.com as well as a handful of others in my work as a product review editor for www.SmallBizTrends.com.

I did a post of my 15 most popular Lists I've created and put it here: http://bit.ly/dhERzj
In this list is a list of ecommerce players, too. Most of these are for small biz and the requirements for a bigger company are myriad. Nick does a good job above.

I have to say that I don't think we have good language yet to describe the difference between virtual hosting / cloud providers. I would be more likely to go to people I trust and who are passionate about what they do, like http://www.memset.com than to a maybe bigger but more impersonal company.
