What are the best online project management products?

What do you think are the best online project management services? Open-source is definitely a plus, especially because we only have 2 or 3 projects to manage at a time. What products have you been most satisfied with?

Hello Derek:

We use 37 Signal's BaseCamp (www.basecamphq.com) to manage our projects. We evaluated several other solutions but we found that the simplicity of BaseCamp was what made it stand out for our company, especially when interacting with clients that are not very tech savvy.

Do note that BaseCamp does not offer extensive PM related functionality. I think of it more of a communications management and streamlining system with document sharing capability and some additional features such as time management, milestone tracking and to-do task management.

We have been using BaseCamp for over 2 years now and we are quite satisfied. The ultimate decision would depend on your exact requirements. If you do not have a need for in-depth tools such as Gantt Charts, trending charts and others, then BaseCamp could fit.

We evaluated the following before settling on BaseCamp:
1. www.easyprojects.net
2. www.huddle.com
3. www.liquidplanner.com

Hope this helps.

Rajeev.

Are you running a small business?

I ask because an integrated solution may be a better idea. Instead of going with only one type of application and then having to integrate, you could get a more centered solution that can manage all your business processes. If you look at WORKetc this combines CRM, PM, and billing into one, meaning you manage your entire business under one system. Once a lead has been converted to a sale, a project can then be created with all relevant information from the lead immediately place, you incorporate timesheets and gantt projects with sub projects, to-dos, and calendars to help reach completion, where you can then use the timesheets as one click-turn into an invoice.

Just a heads up but you definitely may find it more useful to combine!
