What are the differences between human resource development & hr management

I can't figure out the differences between HRD and HRM. Does anyone have some insight?

Gary,
Good question as they are different. Human resource development focus' on assessing the job and leadership skills of employees, creating programs, training or coaching to develop those employees. HR development would focus succession planning, grooming leaders to move up into executive positions as the needs arise. Creating strategies and programs that work to achieve the short and long term goals of company.
Human resource management would focus on creating and maintaining HR processes in regards to recruiting, performance evaluations, compliance with federal and state laws, employee relations, job evaluations and job descriptions, just to mention a few.
To sum it up, HR development is more strategic and HR management is handling the day to day needs, as well as creating processes that bring value to employees and the company.
