What are some examples of business intelligence applications?
I've been hearing a lot about business intelligence through the blogosphere, but it all sounds very vague to me still. What are some concrete examples of business intelligence applications? Are there any companies that sell an out-of-the-box product, or are they all customizable?

Business intelligence is an interesting space, and there are several out of the box and customizable solutions available. In the contact center world, most technology solutions come with out of the box reporting solutions, but require BI tools like Informatica and Data Warehousing products to join the data and merge it into meaningful metrics.
BI can be as simple as a Crystal report on an out of the box database or as complex as the use of ETL (Extract Transform and Load) tools that load the application into a data warehouse which is then accessed by users through a reporting client like Crystal, Web Reports, Cognos, Business Objects, Brio etc.
Please feel free to email me at mbabb@ponvia.com for more information. I am vendor agnostic consultant...so will not try to sell you any products.
I believe a good BI application is always customized to cater to industry-specific and (more precisely) client-specific requirements. One very simple example of BI applications in Google Analytics.
BI applications can be found today among all those working with information. It is important to understand that businesses today have better outcomes based on decisions made with valuable information, it is here where they are based BI solutions, who think only to buy the software they already have a BI application are totally wrong. It is for this reason that BI applications fundamentally solve business issues and support decision making. BI applications should be able to transform business rules in information, including display in a simple and dynamic.
Hi Jason,
Just to introduce myself, my name is Valerie Evans and I am an IBM Software Sales rep, I would be happy to discuss the BI tools that we have available. I noticed that Michael Babb mentioned IBM Cognos for BI which is correct.
see below some links you can review and we can arrange for a call later next week
What brings you to looking at the BI tool, are you using any technology today in your business?

Another concrete example would be Bime the SaaS BI solution. It's great because you don't need any serious technical expertise to use it, and because it's delivered over the internet it's scalable to your needs - i.e. you pay for what you use. Super efficient!
