Judy, it might help to have some more detail about your situation. What function you have depends on the type of company but here are some functions seen across many companies, especially as they grow. You can use the Focus top navigation bar as examples of the biggies

1. Sales is responsible for the selling of the product. Can include field sales, inside sales, retail merchandising, channel sales, sales operations,

2. Marketing is responsible for understanding the customer and communicating the value of the product or service to that customer. Can include product management, product marketing, direct marketing, brand marketing, customer research and customer insight groups.

3. Finance is responsibile for managing the companies finances. Can include accounting, planning, forecasting, treasury, billing, etc..

4. Human Resources - owns people asset management. This can include hiring, onboarding and training, performance appraissal processes, etc.

5. Operations -- typically for companies transactional in nature that have need to manage manufacturing, supply chains, and distribution logistics

6. Information Technology (IT) - manages the technical support for your business, everything from the desktop computers to your network to applications on your network. Can also include actual product development and engineering capabilities.

What Michael described are the technical aspects of the management function. The other equally important function of management is relationship building. Managers, supervisors and all leaders have the responsibility to engage, motivate, bring out the best in their employees. This is only accomplished through a relationship management approach, with the goal of building trust.
Trust is very critical in an organization, it's one of the top employee issues along with communication.
