To my mind, you should always keep in mind 2 important things:
1. BI investments are wasted unless they are connected to specific business goals, analyses, decisions, and actions that result in improved performance.
2. The quest for delivering business value via BI can be seen as a matter of determining how an organization can use BI to:
• Improve management processes (such as planning, controlling, measuring, monitoring,
and/or changing) so that management can increase revenues, reduce costs,
or both;
• Improve operational processes (such as fraud detection, sales campaign execution,
customer order processing, purchasing, and/or accounts payable processing) so
that the business can increase revenues, reduce costs, or both;
All your actions with the Business Analysis system implementation should be linked to the strategic goals and lead to the business process optimization.
