I work for the company that produces Bime (http://bimeanalytics.com). I think bime is a good self-service BI app as it meets the requirements of SSBI: it enables business users to access and work with corporate information without the IT department’s involvement. Bime was designed with the business user in mind, and is therefore really simple and intuitive to use.
The self-service approach lets end users create personalized reports and analytical queries while freeing up IT staffers to focus on other tasks – potentially benefiting both groups. Because self-service BI software is used by people who may not be tech-savvy, however, it is imperative that the user interface must be intuitive and easy to use.
What's more, Bime utilizes rich internet applications in its BI software. This allows for a user-friendly interface, web-based tools and reports, and reporting formats that will look and feel familiar to the user.
Business intelligence can be complex, but more and more, vendors are creating tools that are more user-friendly and allow business users to work directly with those tools.
I hope that's useful.
