Hello Christy, it really depends on several factors:

- What line of business are you in?
- How may employees will you have?
- Will you be doing your own payroll?
- What is your projected revenue for the next 5 years?
- Do you plan on reporting on an overall company wide basis or will you have profit centers, multiple locations, departments, product lines, etc
- Will you have inventory?
- Do you need point of sale capability?
- Will you need and ERP or CRM to integrate with the accounting system?

You can go as simple as QuickBooks or PeachTree or go with something more robust as the situation calls.

Hello Christy,

Robert above listed a few great questions, which you should take in consideration on how you want to track and report for your business.

I work for IBM in Software sales and we do have an Accounting software that takes care of the reporting aspect and the usage

in the next link there is a demo

Oft times it is not so much how good the software is, but how good is the training and support. Low end software packages like QB is Peachtree are cheap but over limited reporting capabilities, proprietary databases and quickly become sluggish as you add users. Accounting software like MS Dynamics GP, Red Wing and others are much more robust and offer limitless reporting capabilities and an unlimited number of users. All this comes out in the discovery phase of the project where we look at where you are now and where you want to be in the not too distant future.

Hi Christy,

As mentioned earlier there's a lot of questions that you should address before selecting an accounting software package. The first thing that I would suggest is to make a list of all of the specific tasks that you want the software to solve. I would suggest checking out www.compareaccounting.com . There are a number of articles that give advice in selecting software, and you can even check out different reviews of software products and compare them. Best of luck with your selection process.

For small and medium size businesses, Peachtree and QuickBooks are very good accounting software. You can choose any one of them depending on your requirements. After you choose one of them, it is best to host your chosen software on cloud. Cloud hosting of either Peachtree or QuickBooks accounting software offers enormous benefits to users. With cloud computing, you get super-fast and remote accessibility for multiple users, utmost security, high reliability, extreme scalability, rolling data backup, and 24 by 7 free support service.
