What are some good Incentives to encourage tradeshow attendees to visit your 10x10 booth?

We're in the training industry and want to attract senior level leaders who have the responsibility for hiring 3rd party training vendors. The show we'll be attending is the big industry association. We're a small boutique firm with a good brand and small but growing name recognition. However, it's always challenging for us to attract the right people. While building our mailing list is a goal for the show, it's secondary to building relationships with the right potential buyers. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

"Cutting through the noise" of trade shows is a huge challenge.

Therefore, I like to tackle it from a pre-show promotion standpoint. If you have a mailing or email list of attendees or clients who are attending, it is really useful to send them a reminder of your booth number, any special show promotions, happy hours, dinners, etc. Even if you don't have a specific mailing list for the show, consider promoting attendance via a blurb on a quarterly newsletter, company email signatures, social networks and the corporate website. This pre-event promotion is critical because, as you know, it is hard to get people interested once they're surrounded by the distractions of the event floor.

That being said, a strongly-themed booth (Ex. virtual longest drive event) can attract foot traffic if it is done well. Hope this advice helps.

The best one I ever saw was to ask "who is the President on a $2 bill?" and if they get it right give them a $2 bill

I agree with Elizabeth that pre-show promotion is a good option. If you're thinking along those lines, you might try advertising that you'll be holding a drawing for something at the show, such as a corporate gift basket (or a golf umbrella) stuffed with your target demographic's favorite useful goodies. You could also have them sign up for a chance to win something bigger (iPad come to mind, but depends on your budget). It should be something your prospects would find attractive and of value to them.

In your communications and/or advertising, include a QR code that readers can scan to download your latest lead generating white paper--even if they don't attend the show--but let them know they'll only get a chance to win the goodies if they register at your booth.

Hope that helps!
