Keep an eye on Quora (Quora.com). This new social network was launched about a year ago by two former Facebook employees and is steadily gaining new users. Their goal is to create a forum where questions could be posed and answered. Users vote answers up or down according to how good they are. Sound familiar?
I'm not yet a Quora user. If you've used Quora, I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Although there are a handful of new 'social networks' like Quora out there - I predict to see Facebook and Twitter hold onto dominance for some time to come. The sheer critical mass of networks life Facebook allow any tiny application, design change or feature they launch to have a profound effect on millions of users. Although smaller networks that perform niche functions will gain small followings here and there, it is almost impossible to glean away a sizable fraction of users from the 'big boys'
Technology has always been built via layers on top of layers - from code to social networks. I expect the next generation of new social networks to actually be microcosms that perform niche functions within larger networks like Facebook. Just the fact that Zynga, a gaming company that is built entirely within Facebook is valuated near $10 billion dollars, shows that this model is viable from a business perspective. Although Zynga is considered a game, i see it as a new social network due to it's driving force focused around social interactions.
I enjoy Quora, it is a very useful "discussion engine" much like Focus. It's questions also index to Google rather quickly-much like Twitter's re-tweets. Overall I would rate it a very useful tool in our industry with broader-based discussion points than Focus. Focus is primarily the inner-workings of biz. Whereas Quora is many general topics and questions that are industry specific and expansive.
I hope this helps,

www.path.com -- Social photo sharing service where a user's network is limited to their 50 closest friends.
www.convore.com -- Realtime group-based conversation.
www.usehipster.com -- Still in stealth mode. They've received some Techcrunch coverage and appear to be a Q&A+Location hybrid.
