In your opinion, what are the top human resource trends that professionals need to watch out for these days? Morale and talent retention seem to be high priorities, but what other things should HR managers focus on?

In my opinion, one of the major things that HR professionals should really be aware of is the seperation of HR and OD. More and more organizations are realizing that the OD field must be utilized as a strategic partner, and have a seat at the table with the rest of the senior leadership. HR is beginning to move more towards the personnel function from where it began.
I'd go further and say that the eventual split will be Learning and Development moving to the top table, organisational development will become a clearer field and will form part of L&D.
And that HR will eventually return to being personnel, as truthfully most of the capabilities of HR are not strategic but supportive.
Affordable employee benifits.
I don't necessarily follow trends because, like fads of the month or the latest book by some HR Guru who has never practiced the profession, they tend to fade or gather dust on the bookshelf.
That doesn't mean that the so called trend is bad, rather, I prefer to evaluate ideas based upon their unique value added to my organization. Consequently no single trend or fad makes my "must do to be "with it" and therefore current" list.
I do not disagree with the premise that OD appears to be evolving from stereotypical HR duties. I do disagree that most HR capabilities are not strategic. I will accept that many HR competencies are purely transactional and easily outsourced. Having lead HR functions that have returned significant hard dollars to an organizatioons bottom line, I know that many things HR can do are of great value. The fundamentals are the same, the application is what makes the difference between strategic and transactional. Trend setting, with those value added applications, is of more importance than trend following.
Julia,
In the recent past there are changes in the timing of working hours. It used to be normal day time working hours. In current scenario, there are different kind of jobs which requires different kind of working hours. This puts lot of stress in employees family life or one may call it personal life. Constant & rapidly changing business scene across the globe brings lots of instant changes for the employees. Looking into these stressful scenario HR has to perform a role which is much bigger than the pay roll & recruitment department. They have to adapt to the role of counselor & motivator. The Hr should concentrate more on the role of guide & guru to the employees. The biggest challenge for an organization is to keep there employees healthy mentally & physically.
