What are the worst human resources solutions for software?

I need HR software, either an HRIS system or talent management software. I don't want to get stuck with a bad product. What are some of the solutions that I should avoid?

Inflexibility should be avoided, don’t lock your company into a system that dictates which HR processes you must use. The best solutions fit around how you currently manage your HR requirement and build from there. They must have the flexibility to deal with change and scalability to deal with growth. These features should come without the need for expensive consultation charges and ideally have a level of uncomplicated self configuration. One such system is HRnet Enterprise, take a look at the video http://www.vizualhrsoftware.com/hr-net-enterprise/take-a-tour/

Anna, it's not about identifying stinky products when you're sourcing it's about identifying good ones.

Always ask for, and take references for large software installs - look at the organisations who act as references (physically) and talk about the issues they have faced and overcome in implementation and support.

Then make a decision. What's wrong for one, might be right for you - talk to a few company's and make sensible decisions based on organisational fit.

Inflexibility is a nonsense concept in most systems now, modularity and upgrades are a standard. As is the ability to expand (SQL server or Oracle is after all SQL server).

So look for the best answer to your business needs and fit for the right partner in this.

Anna, Look for the words "fully integrated" and "intuitive" when assessing new packages. Lawson, for instance, has a new package, which integrates HR, Payroll, a TMS, and Workforce Planning in one database. Integration will elimnate the need for peripheral ("downloading files!") systems.
