Hey Lauren, great questions... I always tell people the most private place on the internet is your blog when you first start writing it... When you are ready to be more public, I think the best way is to simply tell people. Download your contacts from LinkedIn or other close-in lists you have and simply tell people.

Give them the first paragraph of a couple of posts. Ask them to read and comment or if they don't want to comment, to provide you feedback via email.

After you get comfortable with those you know reading your stuff, start to put it out on twitter, use a FB app to tie to your FB account, use the blog link for LinkedIN to repopulate it there and of course, G+ is now an option as well if you are there.

But, and please remember this, if you are going to blog, make the commitment to do it regularly. Worse than not writing a blog for your business is to start one and abandon the process.

Hi, Lauren. This is a question that I get asked all the time. Although there are a lot of great technical tools that can help a new blogger find and target an audience, there is no silver bullet to jump start the process.

My advice is:
1. Have a clear strategy for your blog - who are you writing for and why ... what is your blog delivering to the audience? What problem are you solving? Create your content around this purpose.
2. Start getting the word out before you've even started your blog. I wrote a post about "Building Your Social Network From Scratch." (http://nhwn.wordpress.com/2010/12/02/building-your-social-network-from-scratch/) that provides tips on how to find and engage the people who will become your audience. Don't wait until you're posting - create an audience beforehand so that when you're ready to launch, you have a group of folks who are ready to read and respond.
3. Use social media promotion (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc) to share your content, but make sure that you engage with social "friends" in a respectful and relevant way.

Thanks for the opportunity to share!
