What are your Top 5 tools that help you be an excellent Account Manager?

I have a regime that I implement when interacting with my clients, my top 5 tools. These tools help me stay focused on the important things, build trust, respect and communication with my client and assist me to be an excellent Account Manager. Here’s my top 5;

1. Smile.

It’s obvious but it works. Think about it, how far did a frown get you in business? Having a positive expression on your face communicates that I am receptive to engage in a positive interaction.

2. Positive Demeanour.

Goes hand-in-hand with the smile. Having a positive sounding voice, expression and body-language behaviour creates a powerful non-verbal message to your client that you are accessible and approachable.

3. Notepad and pen.

Taking notes with a notepad and pen communicates that you are being attentive and focused on the most important person at the meeting; your client/partner. And before you ask, no, Smart Devices are not the same.

4. Smart Device.

I use an iPad, it has become my organiser, personal assistant, time tracker and “remember-all”. You can’t keep everything in your head, write it down and then record it. Watch your time management improve 100%

5. Follow-Up.

So obvious it doesn’t need mentioning right? Wrong. Do what you say you will do. Ensure that you act on and follow-up on all actions discussed in your meetings with your client. Your client will be impressed with your efficiency as well as keep them on their toes. Don’t forget it also gives you an excellent opportunity to stay in regular contact with your client and after all, isn’t that our goal?
