Many will say that they can show you how to run your business better than you. Just make sure that they are using industry best practices and not "internal" best practices to assess your systems.
Third party assessments will give you valuable insight into your infrastructure, security, storage and applications; but that all depends on who you get the assessment from and what guidelines they set forth for the assessment (should be worked out between both parties).
Having a third party come in and assess your security should be a must for every organization. A good security assessment team will penetrate your network and provide you reports and guides to seal the cracks and close any holes. Invaluable information in my opinion.
